1. BSR Added to Rank Trend Graphs

Competitor Intelligence, Keyword Manager

Have you ever wondered which keywords are driving sales for you or your competitors? With this update, you can view the correlation between BSR and keyword rank, which gives you insight into how heavily the product’s sales depend on that specific keyword’s ranking. If the historical BSR trend closely resembles that keyword’s rank trend, you can conclude that an important portion of sales are being driven through that keyword.

For example, let’s say you sell fish oil. Looking at your product’s historical data in Keyword Manager, you see that your organic keyword rank dropped significantly for the keyword “burpless fish oil,” but your BSR remained relatively consistent. Here, you can infer that not many sales were being driven through that keyword. But if your keyword rank dropped for “fish oil,” and your BSR dropped along with it, you know that “fish oil” is an important sales-driving keyword for you. The more similar the trends, the more your sales depend on that specific keyword. This same method can be applied to competitor ASINs in Competitor Intelligence.

To find which keywords are driving sales for your products or competing products:

  1. Toggle on “track” in Keyword Manager or Competitor Intelligence for keywords you’re interested in
  2. Click the blue “Org. Rank” or “Spons. Rank”
  3. Toggle on BSR

2. ‘Your Keyword Rank’ Comparisons to Your Competitor’s Rank

Tracking your competitor’s keyword rank is a great way to understand their strategy and revenue-driving keywords. This update allows you to take it one step further by viewing your organic keyword rank side-by-side in a brand new column called “Your Rank.” This way, you can visualize which keywords your competitor is out-ranking you on to take action.

3. CPC Suggested Bid Enhancements for Greater Accuracy

Did you know that Amazon may suggest a different advertising bid for your product vs. a very similar product? Your suggested CPC bid is dependent upon a number of factors (basically, Amazon is going to prioritize products that convert over those that do not). For this reason, we typically show a generic suggested CPC bid, or one that is not specific to any individual product. However, with a recent update to Keyword Manager, you will now see your product’s suggested CPC bid, tailored to your specific ASIN directly from Amazon. Plus, if you have linked your product in Competitor Intelligence, you will also see this enhanced, tailored suggested CPC bid. Three cheers for increased accuracy! 🤓

4. Real Sales Data instead of Estimates for Your Linked Products

Competitor Intelligence

In Competitor Intelligence, you can view your ASIN and a competitor’s ASIN side-by-side through linking your product. This allows you to compare and contrast your organic keyword rank, price, units sold, review rate, and more. With this update, instead of seeing sales estimates for your product, you will now see your real sales data pulled from MWS access for your units sold, revenue, and net profit, which allows you to more confidently measure your success and strategize for the future.

5. Faster Keyword Load Times

When plugging in a competitor’s ASIN to get a list of their relevant keywords, you previously had to wait for all results to load before getting started with your competitor keyword research. We’ve now optimized performance so that you can start researching right away while results come in as loaded.

6. Adding Keywords to Your Bank in Bulk

You can track other brand’s ASINs in Competitor Intelligence, but to track your own ASINs, you’ll want to use Listing Analyzer. As you’re completing your competitive research in CI, you’ll come across keywords that you may be interested in tracking for your own products. In the past, you could add competitor keywords one-by-one to your Keyword Manager bank in order to track them for yourself. But with this update, you can now select multiple competitor keywords and add them to your product’s bank all at once!

7. ASIN Tracking from Your Competing and Complementary Products

Listing Analyzer

Amazon recently released new targeting options for Sponsored Product campaigns. The Product Targeting feature allows you to choose specific products to target placements for your sponsored ads, which changes the way you manage your campaigns and helps shoppers find your products on detail pages. In January, we added a Competing and Complementary Products tab to Listing Analyzer. By understanding your listing, we’ll give you a list of suggested products for you to target where you may convert well. And recently, we added the ability for you to easily track these suggested products in Competitor Intelligence. To utilize this update, simply click the three “more options” dots next to the product, and click Track in Competitor Intelligence.

8. Tutorial Videos Added to Better Understand the Tools

Because there are so many features and capabilities in our 7 seller tools, it can be overwhelming at times. Each feature is thoughtfully integrated, and by fully understanding each tool, you can harness the power of the entire suite to have massive impacts on your bottom line. Of course, our goal is to equip you with the data and insights you need. But beyond that, we want to enable you to utilize the full functionality of each and every tool. So, we’ve added additional tutorial videos to Competitor Intelligence, and we will continue adding how-to’s and walkthroughs on the Viral Launch YouTube channel.

One of the biggest mistakes sellers make when running Amazon Sponsored Product ads is not paying attention to how rank position impacts every single thing. Your ad’s position has an impact on your click through rate, conversion rate, impressions, clicks, cost per click, and ultimately your ACoS (profitability).

To put it simply, ad position significantly impacts the amount of sales you can drive with Sponsored Products and how profitable those ads are.

Uhh….so then why is no one paying attention to ad position?! Let’s just say, we think there is a lot of opportunity for increased sophistication of other Amazon tools. And that is why we are so excited to bring this tracking to you inside Keyword Manager!

For each keyword you decide to track, we will automatically begin showing you where your sponsored ad is positioned, both currently and historically. If your product is not showing at all within sponsored ads, we will show a “-”.

Access to this level of insight for thousands of keywords is extremely powerful for your business! Data is critical to being able to make smart decisions, and we want to make sure you have more access to data around your keywords than you can get anywhere else in the world.


Rank Notifications

Keeping track of where your product is showing up in the search results at just a glance is extremely helpful. But, rankings can change at the drop of a hat. Occasionally, a keyword will fluctuate a position or two throughout the day, but sometimes it can fall dramatically and have a major impact on your revenue. The same is true for your product’s placement within Sponsored Ads, where exact position can be even more volatile.

The whole point of an Amazon keyword tracker is to automate the process of keeping track of where your product is showing in the organic and paid results. But in order to make sure you are going to hit your sales goals for the day, you find yourself logging in multiple times throughout the day to make sure you haven’t dropped in the rankings.

To give you peace of mind and to automate checking your ranking results constantly throughout the day, we’ve built a notification system that automatically tells you when your product’s rank changes in the organic and/or sponsored ad results. Imagine one of your best products is ranking in the top 5 for some of your biggest keywords, and the sales are just pouring in. You check your ranking first thing in the morning to make sure none of your competitors have propelled past you overnight. But then, just hours later, a couple competitors jump ahead of you in the search results, pushing your product out of the top 5. Ouch.

This is critical, and the sooner you know, the sooner you can boost your ranking and take those sales back. If you are only checking your rankings once per day, it’ll be almost an entire day before you notice that you’ve dropped in ranking, meaning a day of lower sales. Keyword Manager allows you to track your most important keywords hourly. Paired with notifications, this allows you to rest easy throughout the day knowing that if there are any significant changes in your keyword ranking for your most important keywords, you’ll know right away.

Being able to track sponsored ad rank position hourly is a game changer when you are focused on maximizing PPC sales. Imagine getting notified within just an hour of a competitor out-bidding you for top ad positions for some of your largest revenue-driving keywords. The beauty of being alerted in near-real-time is that you can take immediate action to control placement and profitability.

Hourly tracking paired with notifications will be your biggest sigh of relief, giving you the confidence that your revenue streams are being monitored constantly. I hope it also gives you plenty of time back in your day so you don’t feel the need to check your keyword ranking constantly. *Important to note, that hourly tracking only checks the rankings for the first two pages for each keyword as anything important that happens that quickly, will happen in the first two pages!

Digital Shelf Mapping

In retail, brands pay for specific shelf placement. The better the shelf position, the more shopper’s eyeballs on your product, and the more likely customers are to purchase. But the better the positioning, the more that shelf placement is going to cost. The same is true for sponsored ads.

Where your sponsored ad shows in the search results is critical. For some searches, having the third ad position means your product is showing above the fold on desktop, meaning your product has a better chance of driving more traffic.

For other searches, having the third ad position means you are buried in the middle of the search results, and that results in less eyeballs and lower sales potential.


Knowing exactly where and how your product is being presented to customers is critical to building out your best PPC campaigns. With our Digital Shelf Mapping icons inside Keyword Manager, you can see exactly which of Amazon’s digital shelves your product is on and in which position for each keyword.

In this example, the sponsored ad is currently being shown on Amazon’s first page (denoted by the top icon with the number one), the second row of sponsored results (denoted by the blue middle horizontal bar), and in the first ad position on that row (denoted by the first of three boxes being filled in as blue)

Make sure when managing your sponsored ad campaigns, you know exactly which shelf you are paying for, because as in retail, which digital shelf your product is being displayed on has an impact on your product’s performance!

Ranking to Sales Correlation

At the end of the day, we care about keyword ranking because ranking well in the search results for a specific keyword, should help to improve our bottom line. We wanted to make it incredibly easy for you to identify correlations in sales improvements with increases in keyword ranking (and hopefully never in your case, declines in ranking and drops and sales).

As a quick option to monitoring changes in sales within the context of changes in keyword rankings, we’ve given you the ability to overlay your product’s historical and real-time BSR with your keyword ranking. This will allow you to see just how big of an impact a change in rank has had with a change in your product’s sales!

So all philosophical waxing aside, here’s the big news: earlier this month, Viral Launch officially hit 40,000(!) Launches. That’s 40,000 of our clients’ products that we’ve Launched, helping them take one more step toward success.

How We Got Here

Let’s take a moment to consider how far we’ve come. You may already know some of this, especially if you’ve been a follower of Viral Launch for a while, but let’s quickly recap.

In addition to our Launch milestone, Viral Launch also recently celebrated a birthday. Our company turned 4 years old in early October and then a few days later, we surpassed the 40,000 Launches mark (happy birthday to us!). Pretty cool for a company not even a half a decade old.

Having worked in leadership roles at other companies, Viral Launch President/COO Mitch Black said it’s important, especially for a young company, to take a step back once in a while to celebrate success.

“It’s important we take note of milestones like this for all of our constituents including customers, employees, the community and our affiliates,” Mitch said. “It’s a milestone in just a few years in business that not only measures our short-term success, but is indicative of our long-term success.”

We’ve come a long way since our humble beginnings. Our CEO and Co-Founder, Casey Gauss, along with Co-Founder Jordan Dekker conceptualized Viral Launch in the fall of 2014 while the two were in college, and the company was founded shortly thereafter.

But they never expected their dorm room dream would one day turn into a full-fledged company.

“When we created Viral Launch, we initially set out to create a small service as a side project,” Casey said. “I never would have dreamed that we would run thousands of Launches, let alone tens of thousands!”

A few months after the inception of Viral Launch, Casey had taken most of the control of the company and had set his sights on making Viral Launch a success in the long-term as well.

The months and years following consisted of hard work and dedication, as well as a little bit of luck, that contributed to our success. This includes Casey programming the original Viral Launch platform with socks on his hands because he couldn’t afford heat in his apartment. What doesn’t kill you, right?

Things have also come full circle as Jordan has recently re-joined the team as our own in-house ecommerce expert.

What this Means for Viral Launch

While hitting 40,000 Launches is a cool milestone for us as a company, we’re more concerned about how that has affected the amazing entrepreneurs we’ve worked with.
